Manushyatva, A movement to foster human
values Manushyatva, a movement aimed at inculcating human
values in all people, had its inaugural function at St.
Patrick's High School, Secunderabad on 10-07-99. Its not
that nobody has ever made an attempt to find a solution
to this pressing need. Various reforms and number of
movements launched in the past were aimed at
re-strengthening our society. Although they did
countribute to the cause, such experiments exposed the
need for initiating more such measures to elevate man to
a dignified position. And Manushyathva ventures to meet
this challenge.MANUSHYATHVA became a reality with the timely help of Fr. Raymond Ambroise of APSSS (Andhra Pradesh Social Service Society), the professional support of Fr. Christopher Coehlo OFM (a writer, music composer, singer and professional artist as well as philosopher), the moral support of Swami Danananda (a renowned spiritual sadhu) and the technical support of Fr. Lourdu Reddy, Director of Amruthavani. MANUSHYATHVA's first video-cassette titled 'Auto! Auto!' was released by Professor Afzal Mohammed, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Ambedkar Open University, together with the gracious Blessings of His grace Samineni Arulappa, the Arch Bishop of Hyderabad. While Professor Afzal Mohammed said that the presentation of video cassette deeply moved him, Archbishop Arulappa said that it is always better to light a candle instead of cursing the darkness around us. "Happy are those who dare to dream great dreams" said Fr. Raymond congratulating Dr. George Karimalil who turned his long cherished dream into a reality. MANUSHYATHVA is not a commercial venture. It is a social movement, which has to spread across the whole country. Hence this video programme will be dubbed into as many languages as possible. Since the target of the video programme is students of colleges and high schools, MANUSHYATHVA intends to train teachers to take up the challenge of inculcating values in students. Dr. George Karimalil requests all the educational institutions and the interested individuals to subscribe to this movement by way of contributing Rs.1000/- (&50) per annum. That would fetch the subscriber 3 cassettes a year. In the words of Dr. George K. "MANUSHYATHVA" is not a programme of a few of us. It is a programme where all of us, Hindus, Muslims, Christians and people of all other faiths can play a positive role. If we are to become a well-developed and respected nation, a through revamping of our values and attitudes is indispensable. In the past the great scriptures like the Ramayan, the Mahabharatha, the Koran and the Bible performed this role and are doing their best even now. But then the modern Mass Media seems to be dragging away today's youth, father and farther from the great virtues that the past generations cherished and practiced. Hence it is a great felt need that a systematic inculcation of values using both traditional and modern techniques are evolved. And that's what MANUSHYATHVA is determined to do. MANUSHYATHVA, which is a strictly non-religious venture, intends to prepare videocassettes containing short plays, skits, group discussions and talks by experts, each not exceeding 30 minutes, to be screened in the classroom or auditorium under the guidance of the teachers. Manushyathva plans to produce three cassettes a year. And they will be made available on an annual subscription of Rs. 1000/- (or $50/- only) only. The Ist cassette deals with honesty. Those who viewed it said, "It is eeteremly moving and touching. we could not countrole our tears. We should congratulate the team for their earnest attempts in support of human values". M.D. VINCENT
