A special programme filmed at London Fashion Week looks at how far technology has been integrated into fashion. How should the international communityencourage change in a troubled regime? The recent visit of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe to Parisha sheightened the debate, with France saying it';s better to engage with Harare than punish it with sanctions. President Mugabe has invited the Archbishop of Cape Town, Njongonkulu Ndungane, to act as his mediator. The Archbishop has recently been emboroiled in a fierce debate with the South Africa government over its handling of the Aids crisis. He talks to Tim Sebastian. about he feels he can help Harare overcome its problems when there is still so much work to do at home.

STAR News India Wins Emmy Award

STAR News has won the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) Award conferred jointly by UNICEF and International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATA & A) at the 30th International Emmy Awards Gala at the Sheraton New York. This is first time that an Indian channel has won a prestigious Emmy Award.

The winner, STAR News India, actively participated in ICDB 2001 with five programmes -- Dil Se and International Children’s Day of Broadcasting interstitial ( produced by News & Current Affairs, STAR India) and the Big Fight, Small Talk with Amitabh Bachchan and Assignment (produced by NDTV). STAR News India, won the competition over 30 other TV broadcasters who were in the running worldwide. The other three finalists were TV Cultura from Brazil – a three-time winner of the ICDB Award; Canal Capital from Colombia – last year’s winner of the ICDB Award, and Channels Television from Nigeria – first – time nomination.

"We’re extremely proud of this award as it is for the first time an Indian channel has won the award and we are the recipients. This only goes to show that children’s voices and issues are reaching out to global audiences," said Sameer Nair, COO, STAR India.

ICDB, celebrated annually by more that 2,000 stations worldwide on the second Sunday of each December, gives children a chance to express themselves by producing, presenting and reporting for television and radio shows around the world. Marking its tenth anniversary on December 8, ICDB has grown to be the world’s largest child rights broadcasting campaign, aimed specially at encouraging children’s participation in the media.
