WALKING WITH DINOSAURS & CAR CRAZY |
|
WALKING WITH DINOSAURS It's a breathtakingly filmed, carefully detailed, scientifically accurate Discovery Channel wildlife documentary - - with one extraordinary difference. This time, it's dinosaurs. New technologies, combined with painstaking scientific research enable filmmakers to depict dinosaurs in the wild, just as if they were lions, rhinos or monkeys. The result is WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, a three hour natural history mini series, co produced with the BBC, that brings dinosaurs back to life on.
One of the most ambitious television ventures ever undertaken, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS uses advanced computer animation, state of the art animatronics and the latest scientific findings to recreate the s and sounds of dinosaurs walkingthe Earth. The mini series premieres from October 2 to 5, every night at 8 PM and encores the following day at 1 AM. On October 5, viewers can go behind the scenes to discover how the mini series was made, with THE MAKING OF WALKING WITH DINOSAURS. This hour long special premieres at 8 PM and repeat the next day at 1 AM. All the programmes encore in a special repeat on Sunday, October 8, from 3 PM to 7 PM.
WALKING WITH DINOSAURS spans 155 million years of prehistory and combines rigorous science with the drama of the most spectacular creatures the world has ever known. The miniseries features familiar species such as Tyrannosaurus, Diplodocus, and Stegosaurus, as well as animals that will be totally new to television audiences - - including the extraordinary marine reptile Liopleurodon, possibly the largest sea carnivore of its time, and the awe inspiring Ornithocheirus, one of the biggest flying creatures ever known.
Applying wildlife filmmaking techniques to capture this long extinct world, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS shows dinosaurs as never before, allowing people to imagine they are watching living, breathing creatures in their natural habitat. Viewers can see how dinosaurs moved, how they lived and died, how they hunted and fed, how they interacted with one another, and how they mated and raised their young.
WALKING WITH DINOSAURS also portrays on camera, for the first time, a complete prehistoric ecosystem. The background locations for each program are as authentic as possible and were filmed around the world where ancient plant species still exist, from the monkey puzzle forests of Chile, South America, to the tree ferns of New Zealand, to the redwood forests of California, United States.
Eight paleontologists worked as scientific advisors on the series and more than 100 scientific sources were consulted for specific areas of specialization - - from dinosaur footprints to dinosaur movement to dinosaur dung - - ensuring that the series reflects as accurately as possible the latest scientific thinking.
Filmmakers, paleontologists, sculptors and animatronics experts combined their talents to create the creatures, animating them using sophisticated techniques - - some developed specifically for the mini series by Emmy Award winning animation company Frame Store.
WALKING WITH DINOSAURS is a BBC/Discovery Channel/TV Asahi co-production in association with ProSieben and France 3. The BBC executive producer is John Lynch and the producer is Tim Haines. For Discovery Channel, the executive producer is Tomi Bednar Landis and the executive in charge of production is Mike Quattrone. CAR CRAZY

Extreme Machines : Car Crash Today's cars are the safest ever built : they have anti lock brakes, impact absorbing crumple zones, airbags and shatter proof windshields. These have been developed from a century of studying car crashes. In this program, Professor Larry Patrick describes how, in the 1950s, he conducted a series of experiments which involved dropping cadavers down lift shafts to assess the effects of impact. He followed this with extraordinarily violent experiments on himself and his work led to the fitting of the first safety features on crs. Since then, hundreds of safety features have been added but still the cars of today crash. Maybe the final solution will be when cars can drive themselves. (Premieres October 9 : encores October 10 and 15) Future of the Car : Information Highways Since the first cars appeared more than 100 years ago, engineers have dreamed of a day when automation will take over and drivers can relax while their cars steer them safely down automated highways towards their destinations. This program takes a look at San Diego's Highway 13 where platoons of experimental automated cars are already blasting by grid locked commuters at speeds close to 160 kilometers per hour. Someday cars will be equipped with advanced information systems that won't just tell drivers locations, but will route them around traffic james and even book hotel and restaurant reservations. This program also takes viewers on a voyage of the technological revolution of cars for the future. (Premieres October 10 : encores October 11 and 15) Understanding : Cars This program examines how cars have been the objects of affection through America's good times and bad.
